Frequently Asked Questions

The FAQ in video !

"I am not familiar with the ocean, and I have apprehensions about the size and power of the waves, what do you think?

"It's perfectly normal to have fears related to the ocean and surfing. I am here to accompany you in the water whenever necessary. The approach of Medoc Surf Academy is progressive and respects the sensitivity of each person. We find the best spot for practice with waves that suit you. We prefer to cancel a class when sea conditions are too challenging."

I don't know how to swim well

"No need to be a swimming champion to enjoy the thrill of riding waves! The first lessons take place at the shore, with water up to your waist, and you always have your feet on the ground, moving by walking in the water."

I'm not very athletic

"Surfing is an activity that demands a lot of effort. You are guaranteed to finish physically tired at the end of the session. Getting up on the board can sometimes be challenging for those not used to physical activity. However, it's still possible to ride the waves differently and enjoy the sensations—kneeling, lying down, sitting, sliding into the wave with your body without the board—all positions are imaginable! Surfing is not just about standing up!"

Are there dangerous animals in the ocean?

"Not here ! We're fortunate because on our Medoc coast, there are no dangerous animals—no sharks, no dangerous jellyfish. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of dolphins offshore!"

I'm afraid of getting hit by my board!

"Our boards are adapted for beginner surfers who are not accustomed to falling well. They are made with a foam coating to absorb shocks and soft-edged fins to prevent cuts."
